Regulation on the use of 7-day medical quarantine when entering Vietnam issued by Ministry of Health

Those who have been fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 and got negative PCR test results will be placed in 7-day medical quarantine and next 7-day self-monitor in the living place.

On August 4, the Ministry of Health issued Official Letter No. 6288/BYT-MT which cites the reduction of medical isolation time for immigrants who have received a sufficient dose of COVID-19 Vaccine.

According to Official Letter No. 6288/BYT-M, people who fully meet the following conditions are entitled to 07 days of full medical isolation and continued medical observation for the next 07 days (Not applicable if those enter Vietnam for working purpose less than 14 days and those enter isolation in accordance with other National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control and Ministry of Health regulations)

+ Having a negative SARS-CoV-2 test result (by RT-PCR/RT-LAMP method) within 72 hours of departure;certified by the competent authority of the country performing the test;

+ Having received a full dose of COVID-19 vaccine (the last dose given within at least 14 days and not more than 12 months prior to entry) and have a certificate of vaccination; or have ever been infected with SARS-CoV-2 (with a certificate of a positive test for SAR-COV-2 by RT-PCR method of a single sample not older than 6 months prior to entry) and have a certificate of recovery from COVID-19 disease or equivalent documents which confirm the recovery from the disease issued by the competent authority in the treatment country.

The Certificate of Immunization or the Certificate of Recovery from COVID-19 must be recognized and accepted in Vietnam. You can check the information if the certificate is proper via Vietnamese official website of the Consular Department – Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Other requirements include:

+ Perform the SARS-CoV-2 test on the first day, the 7th day after entry (the first day can use rapid antigen test or by RT-PCR method; the 7th day is mandatory to use single-sample RT-PCR method). If it is positive, it will be handled in accordance with regulations.

+ During moving from the centralized isolation facility to the residence, people who have just completed the concentrated medical isolation are required to follow the 5K message, especially wearing a mask and keeping a distance, constantly turning on and using the Bluezone application.

+ During the medical observation period: those who completed the concentrated medical isolation are asked to use the Bluezone application until the end of 14 days from the date of entry. Consistently implement the 5K Message, especially wearing a mask, not gathering, and not going to crowded places are all mandatory requirements.

Those who have not been vaccinated or have not received enough vaccine doses must self-isolate at home for 14 days from the date of arrival/return and continue to self-monitor their health for the next 14 days. They are asked to take the test on the first day, the 7th day, and the 14th day of the medical isolation period at home or place of residence. If a positive test result for SARS-COV-2 is obtained, it will be handled in accordance with regulations.
