Passengers warned to get to Tan Son Nhat Airport early
National carrier Vietnam Airlines has recommended passengers be present at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCM City as early as possible to avoid traffic jams.
Passengers have been warned not to pass through Truong Son Road to avoid the congestion caused by road improvements.
To meet increasing travel demand during peak times of late May until mid August, the airlines has added up to 3,000 flights with 530,000 seats on domestic routes including Hanoi/HCM City to Da Nang/Nha Trang/Phu Quoc and vice versa.
During this time, up to 470 flights are on the schedule per day, increasing 20 per cent compared with normal days.
Vietnam Airlines has also recommended passengers book flight tickets early and use self-check-in services online or at the airport’s counter to save time.
During national or summer holidays, roads leading to HCM City’s Tan Son Nhat airport usually clog due to high volume of traffic.
Experts suggested solutions such as widening roads, improving transport connectivity and greater use of technology to prevent congestion outside the airport.
On the busiest day of Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays this year, the airport welcomed 124,000 passengers with more than 800 flights.
The annual passenger number was reported to exceed the airport capacity. — VNS
