Apply Vietnam visa from Chiang Mai

This section provides guidance to apply Vietnam visa from Chiang Mai, Thailand.
– Check if you are in Vietnam visa exemption list here
– Citizens of Thailand are exempted to stay in Vietnam within 30 days without visa.
– If you comes from other countries which are not included in the visa exemption list, you are required to get a valid Vietnam visa for your trip to Vietnam
There is no Vietnamese consulate in Chiang Mai. Foreigners in Chiang Mai have two options to apply for Vietnam visa:

1. Apply for Vietnam Visa at Vietnam Embassies in Bangkok:
This is the traditional way when visa on arrival was not applicable. It is effective for all citizens and for all borders in Vietnam (airports, land or sea).
– Procedure: You can apply a visa to Vietnam by mail or in person at the Embassy of Vietnam in Bangkok. Original passport is required and it might take around 3 working days for processing. You are advised to contact the Embassy for visa application requirements in advance.

2. Apply for Vietnam Visa on Arrival with (only applicable for those arriving Vietnam by plane)
Vietnam visa on arrival is nowadays preferred for its convenience, such as: easy to access online, no need to go in person to the Embassy of Vietnam in Bangkok, no risk of losing your passport when sending it off to the Embassy, and save time (only 1-2 working days).
– Procedure:
You first visit, submit the secure online application form, make the payment, and wait for 2 working days (normal service) or 1 working day (urgent service) to get your Visa Approval Letter via email. Print the letter out, prepare your passport, 02 photos and some dollars as stamping fee to get Vietnam visa stamped on your passport upon your arrival at the Vietnam airport.
