We would like to clarify that United States passport holders have two common ways to apply for a visa to Vietnam as follows.

1. Apply for a visa at Vietnam Embassies/Consulates (effective for all citizens and all borders in Vietnam including airports, land or sea): You go to the Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam aboard to apply the visa in person. 2. Apply for a visa on arrival with Vietnamvisa.org.vn (applicable for air travellers only): If you do not wish to go to the embassy to apply visa in person, you can consider visa on arrival. Currently the shortest tourist visa is 1-month single entry visa. The current discounted visa processing fee is USD15.20/pax for 1-month single entry tourist visa. The stamping fee you must pay at the landing visa counter to get the official visa upon arrival is USD45.00/pax.
